Supported Care Paves the Pathway to Employment in TAFE Mental Health Students Through Placement Program

Since July, Supported Care proudly had 18 students undertaking the requirements for practical placement as part of their Mental Health studies at TAFE. The program therefore opens further hands-on experiences and exposes them to actual job opportunities in a growing field. This has resulted in many students moving from placements into Support Worker roles within Supported Care.

The need for qualified mental health assistance is increasingly growing, and the Supported Care placement program has become an extremely important link between academia and the workplace. With the provision of a supportive, realistic environment in which to practice their skills, Supported Care enables these students to retain confidence and the hands-on experience that applies to further success in their chosen careers.

This initiative again demonstrated the magic that could occur with collaboration between institutions of learning and community care support services. Supported Care is committed to promoting student development, as reflected in its mission to provide better quality mental health care and support in communities.

"We're thrilled to have these talented students on board as new members of our Support Worker team. Our commitment to developing the mental health professionals of tomorrow is greater than ever, and we look forward to seeing the positive difference these new team members will make in the lives of those we serve." says Justin Burmeister.

This placement program supports students in practical learning and provides a clear pathway into employment. Supported Care is already committed to these students and looks toward further expanding the program to increase the number of students who will make valuable contributions to mental health support. The Supported Care will welcome these members aboard, continuing to build the core foundation of the mental health workforce in Australia, placement by placement.
